Specialist Treatment for Heel Pain & Plantar Fasciitis in Leeds

Kick pain and inflammation to the curb with MLS® Laser Therapy!

If you are suffering from persistent heel pain, you are not alone. One of the most common causes of foot discomfort we treat at Total Health Care is Plantar Fasciitis—an inflammation of the band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes.

Patients often describe this as a sharp, stabbing pain that is at its worst with those first few steps in the morning or after sitting for long periods.

We don't just treat the symptoms; we look for the root cause of your discomfort. We offer a range of advanced solutions tailored to your lifestyle, including:

  • Biomechanical Assessments: To understand your gait and pressure points.

  • Custom Orthotics: For long-term support and alignment.

  • High-Intensity Laser Therapy: A non-invasive, pain-free treatment designed to accelerate tissue healing and reduce inflammation in cases of chronic Plantar Fasciitis.

What Causes Heel Pain and Lower Leg Pain?

Heel pain is not a single condition but a symptom with many possible causes. In most cases, it is linked to mechanical stress on the structures of the foot and lower leg.

Common causes include:

  • Plantar fasciitis (the most common cause of heel pain)

  • Achilles tendonitis or Achilles tendon pain

  • Heel spur irritation

  • Heel pad syndrome (loss of natural cushioning in the heel)

  • Nerve-related pain (such as tarsal tunnel syndrome)

  • Overuse or sudden increase in activity

  • Poor footwear or lack of support

  • Tight calf muscles affecting the heel and foot mechanics

Pain may also originate higher up in the lower leg, particularly if the calf muscles or Achilles tendon are involved.

Plantar Fasciitis (Most Common Cause of Heel Pain)

Plantar fasciitis is the most frequent cause of heel pain. It occurs when the strong band of tissue (plantar fascia) that supports the arch of the foot becomes irritated or overloaded.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Sharp pain under the heel

  • Pain on first steps in the morning

  • Discomfort after resting or sitting

  • Pain that eases slightly with movement but returns later

This condition is often linked to changes in activity levels, footwear, standing for long periods, or tight calf muscles.

When to See a Podiatrist

You should seek professional advice if:

  • Pain has lasted more than 2–3 weeks

  • Symptoms are getting worse

  • You are struggling to walk normally

  • Pain is affecting your daily activities

  • You have tried self-care without improvement

  • You experience swelling, sharp pain or recurring symptoms

Early treatment leads to faster recovery and reduces the risk of long-term issues.

Generally we recommend 3-6 sessions. Often acute conditions respond more quickly than chronic problems.
